Laboratory Soils/Rock Testing
Applied Geoscience & Engineering, Inc. (AG&E) maintains a fully equipped soils laboratory which was established in 1981. The laboratory is accredited by the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) and provides testing services to Federal, state and local agencies, architectural and engineering firms, industries, private organizations, and contractors.
Quality and timely performance are the goals of our laboratory. All tests are performed according to ASTM and AASHTO standards. Routine onsite inspections of our soil testing facility are conducted by AMRL; also, AG&E's laboratory staff participates in their Soil Proficiency Sample Program.
In addition to equipment for testing physical properties of soil, AG&E's laboratory contains permeability/triaxial test panels and cells which can perform three flexible wall permeability/ triaxial tests simultaneously, two fixed wall permeameters (4½" & 9" dia.), a loading frame, a consolidometer, a direct shear apparatus, a mechanical Proctor compactor, two electronic balances, and a rock point load tester.
Laboratory tests are conducted to represent field conditions; results are interpreted to establish criteria for earthwork and foundation placement and obtain stability/deformation soil parameters. Our engineers and technicians who perform the tests have the analytical and practical background to perform these tasks. The laboratory provides support for both the company's geotechnical engineering and field construciton testing services.
